360 Degree Healthcare
The free clinic provides free healthcare and health education to the residents of the Salvation Army Center of Hope. We cannot accept nonshelter residents as clients. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9:30AM to 6:00PM. 360 Degree Healthcare represents a shared responsibility for health and wellness between the clinic and the client. It starts with addressing the immediate medical needs then provides care and education that builds an understanding of longer term health and wellness. The goal is to develop a foundation of understanding and self-responsibility for wellness that will enable our clients to be well enough when they leave the shelter to achieve self sufficiency.
Registered Nurses, volunteer physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants and CNAs provide health assessments, exams, screenings and a variety of tests to detect hypertension, diabetes, asthma, anemia, cholesterol, sickle cell trait, TB, HIV, STDs, congestive heart failure, presence of lead, visual acuity, eye diseases, smoking and obesity. Lab work is done at no charge. Addition of point-of-care Comprehensive Metaboilic and Lipid Panel capability reduces reliance on outsourced labs and waiting days for results. Prescriptions are paid for by the clinic (no controlled substances or narcotics are prescribed or obtained by the clinic). Over-the-counter medications are provided free, as are personal care products, reading glasses and other typical drug-store items. Transportation assistance in the form of public bus passes, taxis and Uber is provided to get to referral agencies or appointments to other providers.
When their immediate health concern has been addressed, health education is initiated for medication compliance, disease control and management, nutrition, exercise and prevention.
